Frederico Falcão

Frederico Falcão has been President of ViniPortugal, the Portuguese Interprofessional Wine Association, since May 2020. An experienced winemaker with a strong international track record, he has built a career spanning viticulture, oenology, and strategic leadership across the wine industry.

He holds a degree in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Évora and a postgraduate qualification in Oenology from the Catholic University of Porto. He began his career at Esporão, where he served as Quality Manager, before joining Companhia das Lezírias, where he led the Viticulture and Olive Oil Department for over a decade, overseeing production, marketing, and international promotion.

He later worked as a consultant winemaker for several wineries, supporting viticulture, operations, and commercial strategy. Between 2012 and 2018, he served as President of the Vine and Wine Institute, the public body responsible for regulating Portugal’s wine sector, and represented the country at the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) and in European Commission DG Agri forums.

He also served as CEO of Grupo Bacalhôa and remains actively involved in the global wine community as a member of the International Advisory Board of Vinifera EuroMaster. He is Vice-President of the Portuguese Oenology Association and a member of the Order of Engineers.
