Miguel Lopes is Coordinator of the Mobility and Transport Division at OPT – Optimização e Planeamento de Transportes, S.A. and an integrated researcher at CITTA – Research Centre for Territory, Transport and Environment at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP).
He holds a degree in Civil Engineering from FEUP, where he also earned his PhD, and has built his professional career around the fields of mobility and transportation.
Throughout his career, he has been involved in a wide range of projects focused on the restructuring and expansion of public transport systems, including both road-based networks (bus and Bus Rapid Transit – BRT) and rail systems (metro and suburban rail). He has also contributed to the development of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans for several Portuguese municipalities, as well as sector-specific studies covering areas such as school mobility, road safety, and traffic management.
His work combines technical expertise, strategic planning, and applied research, contributing to the advancement of more efficient, sustainable, and integrated mobility solutions.
