PhD in Computer Science, he is an Adjunct Professor at the School of Media Arts and Design and the School of Health of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto (P.PORTO), where he teaches in the areas of web programming, mobile development, and the Internet of Things (IoT). He is a researcher at CRACS – Research Center for Advanced Computer Systems at INESC TEC, focusing on topics such as gamification, interoperability of e-learning systems, and programming language education. He also explores applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in education and healthcare.
Currently, he coordinates the Distance Learning Office at the Center for Pedagogical Innovation (CIP) at P.PORTO, where he has led more than a hundred training sessions dedicated to AI and gamification in education. He is the founder and chair of the International Computer Programming Education Conference (ICPEC), the first international conference exclusively focused on programming education.
He has extensive experience in European projects, especially regarding the interoperability between healthcare systems and educational platforms, gamification, and the development of technologies for teaching programming. Author of more than 200 scientific publications and 12 books, his most recent is titled “Digital Health – Developing Solutions with Node-RED.” He is currently writing a new book on AI-based chatbots.
