Camilo Lourenço holds a degree in Economic Law from the University of Lisbon. He also attended Columbia University in New York and the University of Michigan, where he specialized in financial journalism, as well as the Portuguese Catholic University.
He began his professional career in 1987 with internships in the Economics section of the weekly newspaper O Jornaland at Correio da Manhã, where he was a columnist for the Stock Market section. That same year, he joined the Economics desk of the newspaper Semanário. Between 1988 and 1992, he served as Economics Editor at Rádio Correio da Manhã and, from 1988 onward, as Senior Editor of Semanário Económico. In 1990, he became Coordinator of the National Desk at Diário Económico, a newspaper he helped found.
In 1992, he co-founded Valor magazine, initially serving as Deputy Director and later as Director, a position he held until 1995. At the same time, he was Economics Editor at Rádio Comercial from 1992 to 1997.
Between 1995 and 2002, he was Editorial Director of several publications at Editora Abril/Controjornal, including Exame— a magazine he also directed — Executive Digest, Turbo, Auto Guia, Exame Informática, and Exame Digital.
From 2000 to 2005, he was an economics commentator for Rádio Capital and Director of Maisvalia magazine between 2003 and 2005. In 2007, he joined RTP and RTP Informação as an economics commentator and host of A Cor do Dinheiro(“The Color of Money”), a program focused on personal finance advice. Since 2007, he has also been a columnist for Jornal de Negócios.
Between 2008 and 2010, he was an economics commentator for Rádio Clube Português, where he hosted two programs: Moneybox (focused on macroeconomics) and A Cor do Dinheiro (personal finance). Since 2010, he has been an economics commentator for Media Capital Rádios and continues to host both programs on M80 radio.
He also worked as an economics commentator for the national television network TVI, where he hosted Contas na TV, a program dedicated to answering viewers’ questions about personal finance.
Alongside his media career, Camilo Lourenço has also developed an academic path, teaching at the University of Lisbon, Lusíada University, and the Higher Institute of Business Communication, in addition to lecturing in postgraduate and MBA programs.
In 2010, at the invitation of several Portuguese and multinational organizations, he began delivering executive lectures and training sessions for middle and senior management in areas such as Leadership, Marketing, and Management.
As an author, he debuted in 2007 as co-author of the book How to Make Benfica Champion. In 2009, he released his first solo book, How to Stretch Your Salary and Shorten the Month. In 2012, he published Enough!, a book analyzing the challenges facing the Portuguese economy and possible solutions. He later released other titles, including Get Out of the Way and Tired of Being Poor.
After leaving RTP and Antena 1 in 2025, Camilo Lourenço launched his own digital channel, A Cor do Dinheiro, across Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram. He is currently also a commentator for CM Rádio and CMTV.
