Mayumi is a Nutritionist and Area Manager in the Quality Directorate at MC Sonae, where she leads multidisciplinary teams focused on innovation, nutrition, and product reformulation, continuously strengthening the quality standards of private-label brands. With over 20 years of experience in food retail, including 15 years in leadership roles, she has led projects that align industry practices with evidence-based nutritional guidelines, enabling consumers to make healthier and more sustainable everyday food choices.
She has played a key role in initiatives such as the implementation of the Nutritional Traffic Light system, the Hiper Saudável Movement, and the nutritional optimization of multiple private-label product ranges. More recently, she has expanded her scope to non-food categories, including cosmetics, personal care, and household cleaning products, maintaining the same level of technical rigor, focus on safety, and commitment to transparency and sustainability in product formulations.
She is also a guest lecturer in higher education in the field of Nutrition Sciences, teaching courses in marketing, communication, and entrepreneurship, and connecting future nutrition professionals with the real-world challenges of industry, brands, and health communication.
She holds a Master’s degree in Advertising and Marketing and is currently a PhD candidate in Communication Sciences at ISCTE. Her research focuses on the role of Portuguese nutritionists on Instagram and how their digital communication contributes to improving food literacy in Portugal.
Nutrition and Health Strategy
- Health, like any sustainable strategy, is built through consistency and small wins — not short bursts of intensity.
- At the point of purchase, decisions must be conscious and informed, supported by simple and quick tools that help people choose better (such as nutritional traffic light systems and essential label reading).
- At the point of consumption, the key decision is prevention and planning — shaping the environment (at home and at work) to avoid reactive choices.
Regardless of the context — family, workplace, or team — leadership by example accelerates change and turns individual habits into shared culture.
