With a career that already spans more than three decades, Mário Laginha is usually associated with the world of jazz but the musical universe he has built is wider, including Brazilian, Indian, and African sounds, pop and rock, and the classical bases that underpinned his education.
Mário Laginha recorded only one solo disc - "Canções e Fugas" - but has mostly shared his art with other musicians and creators. First of all, with Maria João with whom he recorded over a dozen discs, and also with Pedro Burmester, and Bernardo Sassetti, with whom he cultivated great complicity until his unexpected disappearance; also, with exceptional musicians such as Trilok Gurtu, Gilberto Gil, Lenine, Ralph Towner, Manu Katché, Dino Saluzzi, Kai Eckhardt, Julian Argüelles, Howard Johnson, André Mehmari or Django Bates.
Mário Laginha Trio's most recent work is "Mongrel", based on original themes by Chopin, and "Iridescente" is his latest musical adventure with Maria João. In late 2013, Mário Laginha and his New Trio released "Terra Seca", an album that breaks new ground for jazz and Portuguese music.
In late 2015, he renewed his collaboration with pianist Pedro Burmester, with whom he has participated in some of the most important Music Festivals in Portugal and abroad.
In November 2017, together with musicians Julian Arguelles and Helge Norbakken he released the album "SEPTEMBER" in England.
In 2018 he starts a long tour with Camané, doing a few dozen concerts that culminate with the recording of the album "Aqui está-se sossegado", being highly acclaimed by the critics and having won several awards.
In 2019 and 2020 he continues concerts in Duo with Pedro Burmester, with Camané, and with his Trio, with whom he has just recorded a new album.
In October 2020 he releases the album "ATLÂNTICO", the second of the LAN TRIO (Laginha, Arguelles, Norbakken).
In February 2022 he edits in Trio the album "JANGADA" with Alexandre Frazão and Bernardo Moreira.
