Manuel Sobrinho Simões consults and publishes mainly about the diagnosis of thyroid cancer. After getting his MD and Doctor’s degree in Porto University, Manuel did his Post-doc at the Radium Hospital/Oslo Institute, in Norway (1979-1980). He has been one of the founders of IPATIMUP in 1989 and, at today, he chairs its board. In 2007/2008 he co-created the Institute of Research and Innovation in Health (I3S) of Porto University. In 1989-1997, he was General secretary of European Society of Pathology (ESP) and President of the ESP between 1999 e 2001. As ESP President and Past-President, he has established the branches of Krakow, Moscow, Ankara and Craiova of the European School of Pathology. He helped to create, in 2008, the Health Cluster Portugal being its Vice-President until 2017. He was President of Board of Trustees of the Agency for Monitoring and Higher Education Evaluation (A3ES) from 2016 to 2021. Manuel Sobrinho Simões was distincted with the Pessoa Prize in 2002, the Ciência Viva Grand Prix in 2016 and the Prize Pio del Rio Hortega in 2019. He published many articles and books on cancer issues in Portugal, Europe, EUA and Japan.
