With a Chemical Engineering Degree from Instituto Superior Técnico (1990), Isabel Vaz also holds a MBA by Universidade Nova de Lisboa (1994).
After the degree, she started her professional carreer as researcher in the Instituto de Biologia Experimental e Tecnológica (IBET). Was Projeto Fabril’s Engineer at Atras Cipan Group. In 1992, started at McKinsey, an high management strategic consulting firm, as Senior Consultant during 7 years, participating essentially in banking and insurance projects.
Since 1999, she is the Chairman of the Executive Committee of Luz Saúde Group, leading more than 13 000 employees in 30 health units, including Hospital da Luz, in Lisbon. Since 2012, the leading Group is also managing, under a Public-Private Partnership, a public hospital – the Hospital Beatriz Ângelo, in Loures.
Was Member of the Board at Nova School of Business and Economics of Universidade Nova de Lisboa. She is also a member of the International Advisory Board of The Lisbon MBA, at the same university.
She was also a member of the General Council in the Universidade de Lisboa.
In the last years, she has been talking in conferences about health management, leadership, human resources and financial sustainability of health systems, invited by several universities and other institutions.
In 2015, received the award “Excellens Oeconomics”, from Jornal de Notícias, considering her as the Best Manager of the Year in Portugal.
In 2017, received the Maria de Lourdes Pintasilgo 2017’s Award, by the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), that nominates former students that have distinguished themselves in their professional and social career.
